UN study shows community leaders are the most trusted source of information in Timor-Leste


Dili, 11 October 2011 –
A United Nations study shows that although access to radio, television and newspapers has increased throughout Timor-Leste, community leaders are still the most trusted source of public information.

UNMIT Launches Ground-Breaking Report on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Timor-Leste

Dili, 20 September 2011 –
The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) launched the first public report by a peace-keeping mission on the rights of persons with disabilities. The report covers Timor-Leste’s achievements in fulfilling cultural rights and its efforts to create policies that respect the rights of persons with disabilities to education, healthcare and community-based rehabilitation.

Community initiates traditional dialogue to diffuse tension in the aftermarth of spontaneous violenc


Dili, 15th September 2011 – 
 
The Ministry of Social Solidarity and the United Nations Development Programme co-facilitated a traditional peace-building dialogue in Zumalai Sub-district, Covalima District on Friday 9 September. The meeting, known locally as a ‘Simu Malu’, was requested by the community through the Ministry’s Department of Peace Building and Social Cohesion in response to recent violence in the area.

Crucial equipment handed over to kickstart new phase in Bolsa da Mae Programme

 

Dili, 8th September 2011 -The United Nations Development Programme transferred crucial pieces of equipment including motorbikes and laptops over to the Ministry of Social Solidarity in support of the Bolsa da Mae Programme at a ceremony in Dili on Monday.

UNMIT’s national staff graduate

Dili, 10 June 2011
The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) celebrated the graduation of the first group of administrative staff and language assistants in a ceremony held today at UNMIT Headquarters in Dili. After completing all requirements, UN national staff members graduated with a certificate in Administrative Studies, Translation and Interpretation.
