Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Inter-Agency mission led by DPA visits the region

As chair of the Integrated Task Force (ITF) on Somalia, DPA led inter-agency mission visited the region, from 31 May to 11 June 2010, to examine the progress in the implementation of UN political and programmatic activities. The team held a series of meetings with various groups including UNPOS, UNSOA, the TFG, UNCT, international and regional partners (AU, IGAD) as well as local and international NGOs.
