Delta Nova incident investigation update

 

Dili, 4 January 2010 - On Saturday 2 January the Acting Police Commissioner Ibrahim Idris and the Acting General Commander of the Polícia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL), Afonso de Jesus, signed off on the Preventive Suspension of the PNTL officer under investigation in relation to the incident at Delta Nova, Comoro, Dili, on 28 December 2009.

National Police resume responsibility over the Police Intelligence service

 

Dili, 18 December 2009 - Today Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Security Sector Support and Rule of Law, Mr Takahisa Kawakami and Secretary of State for Security, Dr Francisco da Costa Guterres, presided over a ceremony in Dili marking the resumption of primary responsibility for the conduct of the Police Intelligence Service of the Polícia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL).

Spanish government expands support for FAO Baucau project

 

Dili, 18 December 2009 - The successful UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Food Security and Livelihoods Project in the District of Baucau in Timor-Leste received fresh additional funding worth 600.000 EUR from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in November 2009. This will allow FAO to expand support to food security in Baucau until 2011.

FAO Timor- Leste: President Ramos Horta Signs FAO Silos

 

More than 30 percent of maize grain produced in Timor-Leste is lost every year due to insects and other pests. This equates to about 44,000 tonnes of staple food becoming unavailable to the Timorese people, and is nearly equivalent to the amount of rice annually imported into the country.

The special session was dedicated to consideration of the rights of women and female children in Timor-Leste.
