UN LAUNCHES GROUNDBREAKING MULTIMEDIA WEBSITE ON TIMOR-LESTE
Dili, 30 November 2012 - The United Nations today launched a groundbreaking new multimedia website, Momentum.tl, that pays tribute to the achievements of the people of Timor-Leste since they embarked on the path of independence in 1999 and marks the departure of UN peacekeepers from Timor-Leste after 13 years.
The launch of the website follows the confirmation by the UN Security Council that the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) will withdraw from Timor-Leste by 31st December.
Containing hundreds of photos and interviews and 55 exclusive videos chronicling every aspect of life, culture and progress in Timor-Leste since the Popular Consultation of 1999, the Momentum.tl site (http://www.momentum.tl) is the first of its kind for a peacekeeping mission.
The Momentum.tl website features:
- 55 new and exclusive videos including: the reaction of a Timorese family when former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan announces the result of the Popular Consultation in 1999; footage of the 2012 Tour de Timor mountain bike race which for the first time passed through neighbouring Indonesia; a moving video of a women seeking justice for domestic violence and; artist Cancio 'Cassimata' Ximenes reciting a powerful poem on forgiveness
- 12 online photo galleries containing more than 250 images dating back to 1999, many never released before
- Key UN documents dating back to 1975, a timeline of the UN presence in Timor-Leste, an interactive map, infographics and links to other online resources on Timor-Leste
