  • 07 Jul 2008 - 6 December 2006, Dili-- A senior police advisor from the Philippines has been designated the Police Commissioner for the United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) Rodolfo Asel Tor joined the mission on December 2. He was previously the Director for Plans with the Philippine National Police and has a long and distinguished career in policing in his country.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, December 8, 2006 - Seventeen people arrested last Tuesday in relation to an alleged attack on the police post in Bidau have been remanded in custody after appearing in the Dili District Court yesterday. The judge presiding over the first inquiry administered the most severe punishment possible by ordering that the men who allegedly attacked the police officers be remanded in custody until their trial on a date yet to be set.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - 08 December 2006, Dili--- Following their recent arrival, the first 40 electoral United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) showed off their recently acquired Tetum language skills at a "Tetun Only" performance today. The electoral UNVs arrived in mid November to begin gearing up for the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections. Part of the preparations included undergoing a three-week intensive training program in Tetum.

  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili – December 19 2006 – In a move that represents an increasing stabilization in Timor-Leste, United Nations today started deployment of district commanders and their units to all 12 districts. Deployment is expected to be complete by the week's end.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, 26 December 2006 – United Nations police in Dili have arrested one suspect on charges of rape and sexual abuse, following a month long investigation into the crimes which took place in October and November. The arrest was made yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the Vila Verde area in Dili.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - 11 January 2007 – The United Nations envoy in Timor-Leste today welcomed the peaceful response by the population to the trial of former Interior Minister Rogerio Lobato and his co-defendants, who are being tried for allegedly arming civilians during the deadly violence that erupted last year, which led to the deaths of at least 37 people and forced 155,000 others from their homes.
