  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, Timor-Leste – Representatives from five political parties met yesterday in Ermera district to discuss how best to prevent further violence in the area during and after the election period. Also in the meeting were representatives from the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor (UNMIT), UNPol, PNTL, and the Ministry of Labour. Local officials also took part.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, Timor-Leste, July 6, 2007 – The head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) has congratulated all 16 political parties for their democratic conduct following the parliamentary election on June 30. Atul Khare hosted a meeting for all political parties at the UN's headquarters in Dili this morning.

  • 07 Jul 2008 - Role of UN Volunteers was crucial to the success of the elections in Timor-Leste, said President José Ramos-Horta Dili, Timor-Leste – The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, has congratulated the more than 250 United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) from 70 countries working with the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), who assisted throughout the electoral process in April, May and June of this year.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - 19 July 2007, Dili – on 17 July 2007, a PNTL team in Liquica recaptured an escaped prisoner who had been charged with murder and arson on 6 January 2007. The escapee, Jose Da Silva, was apprehended in Lusatia sub-village. He had escaped from Becora prison on 17 February 2007. The Head of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste, Atul Khare, congratulated the PNTL and hailed the recapture:

  • 05 Jul 2008 - August 7 2007, Dili – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste Atul Khare has condemned the sporadic violence in Dili following the announcement of the new Government yesterday afternoon. Mr Khare, who characterized the violence as sporadic and isolated, stated strongly that any political party supporters engaging in acts of violence will be treated as criminals and swiftly dealt with.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, August 8, 2007 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste, Atul Khare, has strongly condemned the violence in Baucau and Viqueque over the past 24-hours.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, August 12 2007 - United Nations police in Timor-Leste have arrested 34 people in relation to the violence in the eastern part of the country over the past few days. In Baucau, 21 people have been arrested and charged with creating a public disturbance including blocking roads, throwing stones and burning tyres. A further two people have been arrested and charged with making home-made weapons.
