    In a meeting held at the United Nation's headquarters in Dili this morning, the leaders of all political parties in Timor-Leste have strongly condemned the violence that has troubled the new nation since Monday.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, August 11 2007 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste has strongly condemned those behind an attack on a UN convoy travelling from Baucau to Viqueque.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - DiIi, August 13, 2007 - United Nations Police (UNPol) and the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) have arrested a suspect in relation to an alleged rape in Baucau on Friday.
    Reports so far indicate that an 11 year old girl was raped by a 16 year old male in an orphanage in Baguia. The suspect was arrested on August 11 and then escaped but surrendered again to police later in the day.

  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, Timor-Leste – In an effort to rapidly meet the humanitarian needs caused by the recent violent outbreaks in the eastern part of the country, the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) and its agencies have provided security and logistical assistance to the Government of Timor-Leste to deliver urgently needed food and resources.

  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, September 11, 2007 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste, Atul Khare, briefed the Security Council in New York on Monday 10 September on the situation in the country and the work of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) The Council met to discuss the Report of the Secretary-General on Timor-Leste which was issued to the Council last week and to hear a statement of the Nation's new Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, October 3, 2007 - The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) has confirmed that Vicente do Conceicao, alias "Railos" was arrested early this morning at his residence near Liquica. He was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant issued on September 13, 2007 for his alleged role in the events of 24 and 25 May 2006.

  • 05 Jul 2008 - Today, the United Nations police officer, Nuno Anaia, will testify at the Dili District Court trial for the shooting deaths of eight PNTL officers on the 25 May 2006. The testimony has been made possible because the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, at the recommendation of his Special Representative for Timor-Leste, Atul Khare, has waived the immunity that Mr Anaia enjoys as a staff member of the United Nations.
