Timor-Leste National Disaster

More than 1,500 families have been affected by the heavy rains that have disrupted parts of Timor-Leste and cut off some communities in recent days.   Dili, Viqueque, Ainaro and Covalima have been the most severely impacted by the flooding. In the past week, UNMIT helicopters helped support relief efforts by the Timor-Leste National Disaster Centre. Five UNMIT flights from Dili delivered 5.5 metric tonnes of vital supplies to the outlying districts for onward distribution to the affected areas. The supplies were made up of individual family packs, each containing approximately 25kg of rice and 4 kgs of cooking and household items. Photos by Bernardino Soares/UNMIT
