  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili: 8 November, 2007 - A human rights report released today found that the citizens of Timor-Leste enjoy a range of human rights including freedom of speech, freedom to criticise the government, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion. However, in a number of areas, challenges remain to guaranteeing the fulfilment of human rights.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, 19 November, 2007 - The European Union has reaffirmed its support for Timor-Leste, and the role of the United Nations in its future, during meetings in Brussels last week.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, 26 November 2007 - United Nations police officers working alongside their Timorese counterparts, and assisted by the International Security Forces (ISF) have completed a successful weapons recovery operation in the Dili district of Bairro Pite. The district is a problematic area and often the site of fighting between gangs and recently, police and army officers have seen weapons being used during fights.

    A Security Council Delegation has concluded its visit to Timor-Leste having met with a wide variety of Timorese across the country and having gained a first hand view of the challenges facing the young nation.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, February 4, 2008 - The United Nations Police (UNPol) will begin today to progressively transfer authority to the National Police of Timor-Leste by giving the PNTL command of three police posts in Dili.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, February 5, 2008 - The senior leadership of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) have met FRETILIN's leadership to discuss the reform of the security sector.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili, February 11, 2008 – A shooting has taken place at the house of President Jose Ramos-Horta in Dili. Several injuries were sustained and the President is currently receiving medical attention. The United Nations Integrated Mission (UNMIT) in Timor-Leste regrets that such incidents have taken place. Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao is safely in his office and is currently coordinating with UNMIT and international forces.
  • 05 Jul 2008 - Dili – 14 February, 2008 - In a meeting held at the United Nation's headquarters in Dili this morning, the leaders of Timor-Leste's political parties strongly condemned the attacks on Monday 11 February.
