  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, 03 April 2007 – A significant number of national and international observers will watch over the electoral process in the lead up and during the presidential elections on April 9. Almost 1,900 National Observers from more than 50 Timorese organisations have registered to observe voting across 504 polling centres in 13 districts.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - May 7, 2007 Dili, Timor-Leste –The distribution of polling material across Timor Leste's 13 districts continues today with the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor Leste (UNMIT) providing logistical support to the national authorities charged with running the second round of the presidential election to be held on Wednesday.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - UNMIT has welcomed the unfolding of the judicial process over the past few months in the ongoing case of the Former Minister for Interior, Rogerio Lobato. Justice is a pre-requisite for reconciliation and stability. Lobato was one of number of individuals who were recommended for investigation and possible prosecution by the Commission of Inquiry Report for his role in the violence that besieged Timor Leste in April and May last year.

  • 07 Jul 2008 - 16 May 2007, Dili: The UN's top envoy in Timor-Leste has expressed his concern over signs of a resurgence of gang fighting and mob violence in the nation's capital, Dili, in the past 24 hours. The fighting, which included rock-throwing and arson, occurred yesterday between 6.30 and 7pm between two groups of approximately 100 people in the Bairro Pite area of Dili.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili, May 28, 2007 - The head of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) has welcomed the signing of a document that harnesses the collective will of all political parties to a free and fair June 30 election. Importantly, the Political Party Accord also covers basic principles of governance after the elections. It commits all parties to a constructive and inclusive democratic process for the new government and opposition.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Lisbon, 27 May 2007 – The leaders of Portugal have expressed their strong and continued support to the development of Timor-Leste during a three day visit to Lisbon by the head of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste, Atul Khare. During the meetings, all leaders agreed that the electoral process leading to the inauguration of President Dr. José Ramos-Horta was a positive and encouraging sign for the future of Timor-Leste.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - Dili May 29, 2007 - A ceremony to mark International Peacekeepers' Day was held this morning to honour the 3,195 peacekeepers from 86 countries currently deployed in Timor-Leste. Also today, the staff of UNMIT paid tribute to the 71 people who have been killed while serving for the United Nations since 1999 through a flower-laying ceremony.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - 03 June, 2007, Dili – The acting head of the UN Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) Eric Tan, said today that security in Viqueque is being revised following the death of two people in the district yesterday.
  • 07 Jul 2008 - June 6, 2007 – DILI: United Nations and Timorese police officers are continuing their search today for a PNTL officer who is accused of shooting a man in Viqueque on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred one hour after the completion of a National Congress for Reconstruction of Timor-Leste (CNRT) campaign rally in Viqueque town, when a man from the nearby town of Ossu was fatally shot in a marketplace.
