UN Police Adviser arrives to Timor-Leste

Dili, 12 October 2010 –
United Nations Police Adviser Ann-Marie Orler arrived in Timor-Leste this afternoon to begin a five-day official visit. She was received at the Nicolau Lobato International Airport by Acting SRSG Finn Reske-Nielsen, Deputy SRSG Shigeru Mochida and UNMIT Police Commissioner Luis Carrilho.

During her time in Timor-Leste, Commissioner Orler will meet with the country's political leaders, government authorities and international and local police officials. She will also meet with senior UN officials.

Later this week she will visit Baucau and Liquica, a field trip designed to enable her to see how the Polícia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL) has resumed executive policing authority in certain districts from UNPOL, part of an ongoing process.

Commissioner Ann-Marie Orler was appointed United Nations Police Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations in March 2010. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Police Adviser from May 2008.

Before joining the United Nations, Commissioner Orler was a Police Commissioner with the Swedish National Police for some 20 years.
