UNMIT PHOTO RELEASE: Naval Peacekeeping Seminar for F-FDTL Officers

Dili, 2 June 2011 - The Military Liaison Group of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste completed a two-day seminar for F-FDTL naval officers on United Nations maritime peacekeeping operations.


This was an important undertaking in the history of F-FDTL, as Timor Leste is wants to deploy soldiers to United Nations peacekeeping operations in the near future. The course was attended by 19 officers and sergeants, including the F-FDTL Naval Force Commander, Captain Donaciano Gomes. Ameerah Haq, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) and Brigadier General Lere Anan Timur, the Deputy Commander of the Timorese armed forces gave certificates to the participants.

maritime peacekeeping operations. The seminar provided an overview of United Nations peacekeeping operations and the use of navies in peacekeeping situations.
