UNMIT
United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste

Closure of UNMIT

The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste completed its mandate on 31 December 2012. The establishment of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) was preceded by a number of other UN operations or missions deployed in Timor-Leste beginning in 1999.

Military Liaison Group

The Military Liaison Group (MLG) has teams based in Dili, Baucau, Maliana, Suai, and Oecussi. In the border districts these teams liaise with the Border Police and the Indonesian Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia or TNI) to ensure the smooth functioning of border activities, mediating where necessary. In all districts, the MLG gathers information for UNMIT on matters relating to security issues.
