Closure of UNMIT

The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste completed its mandate on 31 December 2012. The establishment of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) was preceded by a number of other UN operations or missions deployed in Timor-Leste beginning in 1999.

Acting SRSG visits UNPOL's traffic unit in Dili

Dili, 3 December 2010 -In support of UNMIT's Road Safety Campaign Week, Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (ASRSG) Finn Reske-Nielsen, accompanied by Deputy SRSG Shigeru Mochida and UNPOL Commissioner Luis Carrilho visited the Traffic Unit at UNPOL's Dili District HQ this morning.

The ASRSG and UNMIT senior management delegation was briefed on the traffic situation and road safety measures in Timor-Leste's capital city.
UNMIT's Transport Section is sponsoring a week long Road Safety Campaign aimed at improving road safety awareness among UNMIT civilian and uniformed personnel. The Timor-Leste-wide campaign will include random checks of UN vehicles as part of UNMIT's ongoing commitment to improved road safety.
