Dili, 15 August, 2011 - The F-FDTL Navy came together with United Nations Military Liaison Group (MLG) officers last week for a seminar on maritime peacekeeping operations. The two-day seminar (9-10 August) at Port Hera Naval Base involved 19 F-FDTL and UNMIT officers.

Participants learned about civil-military cooperation and the legal aspects of maritime operations such as searching a vessel for illegal weapons. The knowledge built upon a previous MLG seminar.
The seminar is part of the Timorese armed force's continued efforts to build their capacity. F-FDTL Commander Major General Taur Matan Ruak and F-FDTL Naval Commander, Pedro Klamar Fuik recognized the participants' efforts in the closing ceremony.
Ameerah Haq, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG), and Major General Ruak awarded certificates to the participants.
