Closure of UNMIT

The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste completed its mandate on 31 December 2012. The establishment of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) was preceded by a number of other UN operations or missions deployed in Timor-Leste beginning in 1999.

Statement by UNMIT's Spokesperson on Comoro Road accident

Dili, 5 December 2011 - The United Nations regrets the traffic accident that occurred in Comoro Road, Dili, at around 07.00PM on Sunday evening, involving an UNPOL vehicle and a motorcycle.

As a result of the accident a five year old boy who was travelling on the motorcycle died.


"The United Nations expresses its deep condolences to the family of the deceased" said Carlos Araujo, UNMIT Spokesperson.

"The accident is being investigated by the Timorese authorities, and the United Nations will assist as required".
